a note on people

The competitive need within people - to constantly prove ourselves right - is…unfortunately defining. For example, evolution vs. creationism is a perpetual controversial topic. As long as we exist on earth we will not know who is right. Opinions are derived from facts based on relative situations, such as scientific research or The Bible, but they are constantly thrown this way and that. It’s our own choice to choose which we believe to weigh more in the light of cold hard evidence. OUR. CHOICE. Individually, we all believe we know the answer. We all think we are our own God who knows everything. But we don’t! We don’t know crap and we thrive off of that lack of crap. And then we argue about it and put each other’s own arguments down. Opinion is just as strong as fact. The thousands and thousands of different beliefs define the melting pot that is our world. So this competitive nature…the one that shines millions of lights on thousands of principles…is fascinating to watch. I love hearing about other people’s religious beliefs. I love learning about my own. (note: i’m on that religious journey right now. a work in progress, if you may.) That competitive streak is, naturally, there. For instance, I constantly disagree with my friends’ beliefs. They know who they are, but they shouldn’t be offended - it doesn’t mean I don’t respect them. And that’s the main point I’m making in my rambling tumblr post at 12 am. Debate. DEBATE AWAY. Spread what you believe to the world. But always, always have respect for what other people prefer to believe. Feel free to encourage your beliefs, but never force it or consider someone a bad or stupid person for not believing in it. If this were what we saw in debates, rather than hostility, then perhaps the world would be less fired up about things. Maybe. But…alas…probably not. Because that’s also in our nature.
